This class is taught by Ikumi Kayama, founder and principle illustrator of Studio Kayama. Studio Kayama Medical & Scientific Illustration helps experts, educators, and art directors creating unique and custom illustrations by combining unmatched knowledge and expertise in the sciences and visual communication.

What to Expect:

Get all the right tools and tips to start creating beautiful accurate illustrations in watercolor.

There are thousands of other art workshops you can attend this year, filled with fluff and vague or irrelevant instructions.

Each Studio Kayama event is carefully curated and thoughtfully planned to maximize your information absorption and studio work time. You can use the useful practical techniques the very next day to increase speed and achieve accuracy in your work.

We meticulously source the best materials for high archival quality and offer them to you at near cost. We’ll show you the techniques and tips we’ve developed and mastered.

We’ll be covering a wide array of topics such as water/pigment ratio, amount of water on paper, how to mix colors, and more.

Workshop that feels personal

We welcome everyone from all levels. Minimum age to attend this class is 18 per University policies. Each student will work on an independent painting to get personal instruction that matches their level. We aim for the balance–so it’s approachable enough so it’s enjoyable, but challenging enough to feel accomplished. The workshop is a two-way dialogue. We listen carefully to each student’s comments and their assessment before we give further instructions. We want you to leave the workshop inspired, confident, and excited to do more.

What students said

I really appreciated your generosity in sharing materials and specimens. Additionally, your instruction was clear and specific. I will use the techniques for future projects – hopefully! I’ll keep my eyes posted for your future classes.

What can I expect from this weekend workshop?

It’s a 2-day event taking place from 10am-3pm on November 10-11 at Studio A in the Stamp Student Union.
