Description

Ovis aries
2018, Pen and Ink

Sheep are believed to have been domesticated around 11,000-9,000BCE. Many breeds of sheep now lack the tough protective coat to grow only or mostly soft, scratch-free wool.

Notes from Ikumi: I love to knit, spin, and dye wool. Going to sheep and wool festivals gives me opportunities to meet and study the animals who produce the wonderful fiber.

Why Scientific Illustration?

Scientific illustration plates are used in many parks, books, and field guides. It is important that illustrators understand the subject matter, so it’s very helpful to make small studies and sketches to study and understand the birds’ plumage, bill shape and size, and posture.
