This adult cicada study was made as a demonstration piece when giving a talk and workshop for STEM education series in Howard County, MD. Both the adult and carapace study were made from a specimen collected by the artist.
Tibicens species are heard and seen in late summer. This group of cicadas are annual cicadas which can be seen every year.
Why Scientific Illustration?
Scientific illustration plates are used in many parks, books, and field guides. It is important that illustrators understand the subject matter, so it’s very helpful to make small studies and sketches to study and understand the insect anatomy in various stages of life.
