This scientific illustration describes how using a turtle exluder device on crab pot entries can protect diamondback terrapins from being trapped in a crab pot.
When preparing this plate, I had the honor of working with the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD. I got to observe the terrapins in person to get the swimming poses correct. I also was able to borrow a crab pot to illustrate this simple yet complex structure accurately.
